POSITION DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a Data Warehousing expert to join our Business Intelligence services group. This position can be based in Boston, MA or NYC and requires up to 25% travel between these two locations. The Data Warehouse Architect will lead the architecture, design and development for next-generation Data Warehousing platforms and analytical solutions for some of the most respected financial and investment institutions in the world. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience building highly scalable data warehouses and a keen understanding of how topology, data model design, and data management polices influence system performances involving extremely large sets of highly sensitive data.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supporting our Director of Business Intelligence in the pre-sales process, in particular listening and understanding what the client is asking for and what they need on a technical level
- By working with the Business Intelligence team, help to manage expectations with the client throughout the project and doing so in a way that makes them happy
- Perform technical evaluations and proofs-of-concept and present recommendations
- Recommend architectural changes that maximize system performance, stability, and maintainability
- Design and build logical data models (star/snowflake schemas) and aggregate cubes
- Create automated reports, dashboards, ETL workflows and mappings
- Tune clients’ system performance through SQL tuning, DB optimization and other strategies
- Collaborate with junior team members on the technical approach and design for complex problems
- Work closely with the clients on the architectural direction of their Business Intelligence platforms, ensuring cohesive, high performing and scalable systems
REQUIREMENTS
- BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent technical degree
- 5 – 7+ years of database experience with an emphasis on Data Warehouse architecture, design and implementation
- 5+ years experience designing and creating star schemas, snowflake schemas, aggregate data cubes and ETL processes
- Experience writing efficient, reusable, creative, and organized database code making use of the latest features in SQL Server 2008
- Ability to understand the trade-offs of database architecture styles: ODS, DW, DM, etc.
- Experience with SQL Server Business Intelligence tools applied to real-world scenarios
- Understanding of the trade-offs between normalization and de-normalization
- Expert grasp of SQL database design patterns including: data modeling, data transformation, and data retrieval
- History of transforming a technology vision into a comprehensive database solution
- Experience with SQL Denali a plus
- Ability to communicate effectively to influence customer strategy, tactics, and position
