POSITION DESCRIPTION
We are seeking an individual who has a solid systems and database administration background with Microsoft SQL Server 2005/2008. This individual will help us innovate, lead, and deliver our database transformation program in highly visible engagements.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support our Director of Database Management in the pre-sales process, in particular listening and understanding what the business challenge is and translating the solution at a technical level
- Work with clients through a variety of database management problems, solutions, upgrades, and new development
- Think through problems while understanding both the technology solution benefits as well as what risks the client might identify to ensure the proposed solution is appropriate on a variety of levels (i.e. complex replication solution may be tough to support if the client has inexperienced staff)
- Evaluate client database administrator procedures as compared to best practices developed by Advanti as well as what is appropriate for their needs
- Understand client database issues such as performance problems at multiple levels (query, database structure, server, and storage)
- Ability to systematically automate DBA tasks: backups, environment refreshes, monitoring
- Research new technologies in future version of database technologies to ensure Advanti remains on the leading edge of database technology
REQUIREMENTS
- 3 – 5 years work experience as a database administrator
- Experience in Database physical/logical design
- Experience in SQL Server 2005 and 2008 database internals (DMVs, Index Architecture, Caching)
- Experience in performance tuning across: queries, query plans, indexes, physical databases, and hardware
- Ability to effectively write T-SQL from scratch and help debug or collaboratively re-factor other developers code
- Working knowledge of and management experience with high availability and disaster recovery solutions (clustering, replication, mirroring)
- Strong knowledge of SQL Server Profiler
- Systems engineering and database development experience is a plus
